The beginnings

Founded as a family business that manufactured paint and masonry products, MAPEI opened its doors on 1937 in Milan, Italy, with a three-person workforce. Thanks to a forward-thinking founder, specialization soon became a hallmark of MAPEI. By identifying trends in the building industry, MAPEI stays a step ahead by bringing innovative products to market that immediately meet new demands.

A world leader

MAPEI's first big innovation was developing flooring adhesives, primarily for linoleum. Products for tile, stone, wood and carpet soon followed. As the flooring industry grew, especially Italy's ceramic tile market, MAPEI recognized a need for products that would make tile installation faster and more secure. The company expanded to the United States in 1983 and moved its Americas headquarters to Deerfield Beach, FL, in 2000. Since then, MAPEI has developed into a world leader in commercial, industrial and residential installation products – ranging from surface preparation and adhesives, to sealants and products for ongoing maintenance.
